Re: Cold Steel 2018

Yep - the date will be Sunday 8th July, so more Hot Lead than Cold Steel. I'll put together a proper pack but the intention will be for it to be more of a get together to play games not a tournament/event, so ideal for teaching/beginners etc. Cheers W.

Re: Swindon 2018

Just back from the event. Many thanks to Andy C for organising and GB for running/sponsoring - it is appreciated. Five good/tough games against cracking opponents. Some lovely armies on display. Very pleased and surprised with how the Japanese held up out of period. Well done to the winners. Cheers W.

Warfare 2018

Folks - there will be a Swordpoint event at Warfare in Reading this year (November). I'm toying with the idea of making it a Classical/Dark Ages doubles event. Each pair/team would bring two armies (one classical, one Dark Age). There would be 4 games over the weekend (2 saturday, 2 sunday) and each...

Re: unformed unit and result of combat

Yes if a unit is unformed then it does not receive any bonuses that a formed unit would get and reads the combat result lower.

Re: Possible Rules Amendments

Hi Martin - some good suggestions there. I prefer a rule change to a points change as it is easier to implement (ie the army lists wouldn't need changing). My thoughts as follows; - "Troops armed with bows, longbows or crossbows and no named melee weapon are Inferior Fighters" - I assume this would ...

Deployment

Qn: An army has the stratagem rule and artillery and elects to force the enemy to deploy first Does the opponent deploy all their troops before the stratagem using sides artillery are deployed (thereby allowing the artillery to be lined up against a juicy target) Or Is the artillery deployed first b...

Re: Commanders

It means the total number of commanders. The general counts towards the number. So if it says up to 5 commanders it means you can take a general and 4 other commanders for a total of 5.

Re: Scottish medieval list 1250 to 1500.

Perhaps one option might be to allow them to remain stationary and form a "hedgehog" or pike square (although I had always associated this with 15th century Swiss rather than Scots). Whilst in this formation they could fight on all sides but could not move. Likewise they could not charge out of this...
