Re: SWINDON 2020 - Dark Ages Event

Any list in the Dark Ages book - sometimes there are one or two lists from the Classical book that have a cross over into the period, but they are normally well defined in the tournament pack.

Re: List Spreadsheet template?

Martin did devise one for tournaments which I have been using, but this forum does not seem to want to allow the upload of an excel file.

Re: Base Sizes???

You could create a 20mm filler base to give you the same unit width as a unit three bases wide or a 10mm strip for a four base wide unit. The only problem you have is your extra depth which you will just have to live with as it gives your opponents more to aim at as they unlease their flank attacks.

Re: Shieldwall AND two-handed axe ??

Hi Olivier - the answer is yes you can benefit from the shieldwall rule whilst using double handed weapons. If you want to justify it is some of the chaps use their shields and some use their choppers. However, you do not get the benefit of the shield in your defence value. So if you have light armo...

Re: Ghaznavid Points query

I had forgotten about the first rank affecting the bonus shooting dice. Given the advantages of an improved save against shooting and hth and the extra combat dice I am happy with the trade off.

Ghaznavid Points query

Going to take Ghaznavids to Swindon (yes Bob with an army with at least 1/3 of cavalry!) Entry for archers - says that you can have a quarter to half the figures in the unit as spearmen and this is -2 points per base. If I don't elect to arm some with spears presumably they only get one attack per b...

Re: The Southern Italians at Warfare

Glad to know I will be able to carry on making poor tactical decisions ;-) and not be too heavily penalised. Would this be a case for the unit that is being fallen back into becoming 'Disorganised' and needing to spend a turn getting sorted out before it can do anything else. Would seem a reasonable...

The Southern Italians at Warfare

As my regular opponents know I love infantry, and infantry with a 4+ save and the shieldwall rule hold a strange attraction, some would say obsession for me. So the Southern Italians were of particular interest. What are their strengths. Well their standard troops are cheap as chips - Hoplites. They...
