No Simon, you have it correct. I half expected a special rule in the classical book called Elephant Hunter or something liked that which would allow specially trained skirmishers to front up to elephants when not in difficult ground. Perhaps it will come in Ver 1.1

The commander can be attached to a unit and some must be e.g. beserkers. The general still has a 12" radius of command measured from the centre front of the unit.
