Re: Close order charge limited to 4" or 8"??

I believe that the exception to the movement restriction appies to drilled Legionaries from teh Latre Repluican and Early Imperial lists (it is in the Classical lists errata). Does not seem to apply to the Polybian or Middle Imperial lists. Note, there is a cost to using this ability (or other close...

Re: Javelins versus Slings

Hi Wayne, The basis of my post was comparing bases with the same cost, and where one is noticably inferior to the other. Yes giving the javelins a shield does make them a marginally better close combat unit that, but that is not the same comparison, and they have to take several shots getting into r...

Re: Javelins versus Slings

Hi Wayne, For skirmishing troops you will often find that in the army list it's a choice between equipping them with sling but no shield vs Javelin with shield. Sorry but a skirmisher slingers (or archer) without shield is cheaper than a javelinman with a shield, and more cost effective. In the list...

Javelins versus Slings

Why would you ewver choose to use a javelin rather than a sing? Historical accuracy requires it, but from a rules point ot view a Javelin provide no benefits over a sling, and has one third the range for the same cost. Additionally, javalin armed open or close order units are paying more for the jav...

Inferior fighters

Hi Martin, The Errata says: Page 24: 1.5 Hitting the enemy: Change last paragraph to read “Inferior Fighters hit all but other Inferior Fighters on a throw of five. Units armed with bows, longbows or crossbows and no named melee weapon are Inferior Fighters unless otherwise indicated to be Superior ...

Re: Elephant charged in the flank

A strength of 4 presumably means that any shooting hit on an elemphant will cause cause a cohesion test for 25% hits?

Elephant charged in the flank

A few questions relating to Elephants. 1. What is the strength of an Elephant? Is it 4 plus 1 per crew figure? 2. If an elephant if charged in the flank does it get the benefit of the Army Generals' Cohesion if he is in range? 3. In a game yesterday we had a situation where an Elephant, in combat to...

Movement question

Hi All, I have a question regarding movment retrictions withthe new amendments. Thes relate to wishing to move fowards, but not straight ahead . As I understand it, if you wish to move forwards, but not straight ahead, you must first make a one inch move directly forwards. If there is an enemy in fr...
