Elephant charged in the flank

Postby Bitesyurr » Sun Dec 16, 2018 3:57 pm

A few questions relating to Elephants.

1. What is the strength of an Elephant? Is it 4 plus 1 per crew figure?

2. If an elephant if charged in the flank does it get the benefit of the Army Generals' Cohesion if he is in range?

3. In a game yesterday we had a situation where an Elephant, in combat to its front was charged in the flank. The enemy made its cohesion role. In the ensuing fight the charging unit managed to kill all the crew, including the Mahout, so stampeded. Does the elephant always stampede to the rear of the its base (modifier by the direction as per the rules, or would it run away from the side opposite the charging enemy?

4. We played that the Elephant used its rear base edge. The dice roll meant that it then attacked the unit which had just charged and attacked it. The attack failed. What happens to the elephant at this stage? does it burst through the unit, flow around it, of do a new stampede roll?

An elephant had a base strength of 4 (page 8) The crew do not affect this
An elephant never gets the benefit of the General's Cohesion (page 29)
An elephant stampedes away from the cause. In this case it would align for the dice throw like any unit hit in front and flank (page 30 item 4) and deviate according to the throw.
If an elephant stampedes into a new unit and then loses a round of combat, it will throw again for a new stampede direction.

A strength of 4 presumably means that any shooting hit on an elemphant will cause cause a cohesion test for 25% hits?

Elephants do not take Cohesion tests for shooting unless the Mahout is killed (page 40)
