Disengage

Postby DennisW » Thu Apr 19, 2018 9:33 pm

My skirmish infantry defend a hedged field but are pushed back by cavalry. Next turn they pass cohesion and disengage to defend the rear hedge. What do the cavalry do. They cannot charge since this opportunity passed. Do they just watch the skirmishers take up a new position?

Yes if a unit successfuly disengages they move back a full turn (and then turn around to face the people they were fighting). It can be quite frustrating.

The cavalry can move forward, as long as they can negotiate the obstacle and charge them the turn after.

Bob, I recall something that Martin said that the enemy unit to the one that has disengaged, can not move in the same turn that the disengagement took place. Basically they sit there not sure what has just happened, and therefore need time to adjust to the fact the enemy has pulled back. But I would ask Martin to clarify this point.

Mike, I think you may be right, my mistake.

Bob, it happened last night. The cavalry just got stuck within a hedged field, just about to be shot again by the skirmishers. We played the hedge as difficult going, not strictly as described in the rules. How do you folks play hedges?

FWIW, I play hedges as described in the rulebook, i.e. as obstacles.
