Early Imperial Roman allies

Postby Sapper » Fri Aug 04, 2017 9:29 pm

Apologies if this has already been covered, but I didn't see it in the FAQs.

Martin, is the EIR list correct that they can have Maccabean allies ? EIR covers the period 30 BC to 193 AD, whereas Maccabean covers the period 168 BC to 104 BC...i.e. no overlap at all.

Ok there are a couple of issues here. Firstly, the end date of the Maccabean list is wrong, and should be 37 BC. However it is only this date because we reference the Hasmonean kingdom in the title, and that dynasty ended in 37 BC with the accession of Herod. The kingdom persisted until 6 AD when it was incorporated into the Roman province of Judea, and its forces will have been similar down to this date. So yes, a very early EIR force (30BC-6AD) can have Maccabean allies, though they will actually be "The Herodian Kingdom of Judea". Glad we got that sorted out!
