Artillery in Line of Battle?

Postby Xarepunk » Sat Mar 24, 2018 11:46 am

Maybe a stupid question, but I couldn't figure it out and I have a game tomorrow, where this might be an issue:

Does Artillery/Cannons take part in the Line of Battle?

e.g. does a close order unit standing next to a cannon count it as "in Line of Battle" to mitigate the combat result or not?

Only chained guns can stand if attacked, so only those can count as in line of battle.

Does this also apply to Organ Guns, who can stand against charges as well?

I was thinking of a situation, where the artillery is positioned next to infantry, but out of enemy charge range due to depth, e.g. Cannon next to a pike block. If the Massed Pikes are charged, do they count the cannon as part of the Line of Battle (and therefore mitigate the CR by 2)?

Yes Organ Guns count too. However other guns don't count at all, since the troops know that their crews will not stand and so cannot be relied on for support.
