Base widths

Postby Hudson » Wed Sep 20, 2017 3:14 am

If my movement stands are around 45mm wide instead of 40mm will it effect gameplay much? What about if I were to multi base 12 figures on a 180mm x 40mm base?

Thanks !

5mm here or there won't make a difference but 12 figs should be 120mm wide x 40mm deep if 4 to a base or 160mm x 40mm deep if 3 figs per base.

Thanks Wayne. That's what I get for doing "complex" math late at night!

Great to know thank you

Bear in mind that several key elements of the rules, including shooting and HtH combat, are determined by base, or by the number of bases per unit. So if you decide to use large 'diorama' style multi-bases with fewer bases per unit, you would need to make a fair number of modifications to the rules.

I'd just treat a 120mm x 40mm base as 3 bases. If bases are destroyed, I'd just have to mark them in some way. That should cover it I think?

You should be fine doing it that way. the only time differing sizes really matter (except when the two armies are on different sizes!) is when a flank is attacked and you have to ensure that the correct number of dice are thrown by the flanking unit, or likewise when fighting elephants or chariots.

Thank you Martin - once the painting is done I am looking forward to trying them out!

My dilemma is my WOTR foot are all based on pennies, which are 21mm wide. My sabot trays are 4x2 figures and come in at 100mm.

Paul - for your situation I would simply declare that each 100mm wide sabot is equivalent to 2 Swordpoint bases for formed infantry/cavalry, or 1 base for skirmishers. Each unit's base strength should remain as described in the rules regardless of the number of figures per base. Keep in mind the issues discussed by Martin above, and you should be good to go.
