Abbassid list

Hi all,
I'm still planning to get a force at some point and I've now moved my thinking from picts to abbasids. I've done a lot of WW2 stuff recently so I'm thinking with abbasids I'll be able to move away from the browns & greens and add a little bit of uniform and different colours to the force.

Anyway here is what I've got so far. Please let me know what you think!
I'm hoping its going to have plenty of shooty shooty power!

1000
592 4 units of 6 arab infantry, 1/2 with spear, large shield & light armour, 1/2 with bow & light armour = (18x3 + 16x3)x4
472 2 units of 6 militia = (10x6)x2
392 4 sheikh = 20x4
284 1 unit of 6 tribal cavalry with bows = 18x6
54 2 unit of 5 ghulams with spear, heavy armour, and barding = (23x5)x2
4 caliph = 50

Cheers

Kester

Looks like an interesting list, perhaps a bit too reliant on shooting? You have a solid infantry line and some good cavalry, but no real punch once the enemy is weakened by your arrows. Perhaps bring in a religious Volunteer warband? Or a unit of Armenian Ghulams? Or even-if you want exotic- an allied Tibetan cavalry unit?

Thanks a lot for the feedback. Any ideas on 28mm models suitable for Armenians?

Hi Kester,

I've had a look at David Nicolle's "Arms and Armour of the Crusading Era 1050-1350" (ISBN 1-85367-369-2) Eastern volume for you and the vast majority of the images show Byzantine style armour and equipment, with some Turkish and Arab influences. So I would go for mainly Byzantine figures, with perhaps some Arab or Seljuk figures included; even the odd Sassanid would be fine.

Regards

Martin

Thanks!
I went with some plastic fireforge byzantines and I’m planning on doing a small amount of chopping to make them more similar to some reference pictures in a book I have.
List wise I’m thinking of dropping the tribal horse archers and two sheiks to squeeze in some Armenians and two lots of four naffatun bases.
I’ve actually made a start on them all now though!

Hi there,
are you allowed 2 x 4 Naffatun bases?
The army lists allows for 0-1, how many bases can one legally have?
I'm new to this so still finding my way with the rules & lists, Abbassids appeal as I had them in WAB.
Best wishes,
Jeremy

If the list says 0-1 and they are skirmishers, you can have one unit of up to 6 bases.

Thanks Martin.
I will no doubt have many questions as I get into this.
Most will be about the efficiency of various unit sizes for various troop types, so any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance, best wishes,
Jeremy
