My experience so far with elephants is that you will (probably) not win with them against formed infantry if the infantry are shieldwall/phalanx or are superior. That assumes the infantry passes its cohesion test when charged by the beast, which makes elephants attacks somewhat of an all or nothing one shot proposition. Unless you are charging lesser quality foot.

Some more essential stuff...
You will need a 1500pt army chosen from the period 300 - 1066AD only. If your army is from a list which can project beyond this period you may not use later period troops, weapons, allies etc.
You may use the unit quantity modifiers from p4 of the dark-age supplement.
The army general is in all of the 1500pt games and in one of the other two games.
The 1000pt and 500pt armies are made from the troops in your 1500pt army . While the 1500 pt army must comply with the army list percentages and totals, the smaller armies need not do so.

Still on target for the rule-pack to be ready at the end of March. Only have to finalise the point-scoring system and play-test the 500pt scenario.

With the starting date of 300AD this means that some of the armies from the new classical book will be eligible to compete. I've not seen a final draft of the book but I expect it to include :- Alans, Armenians, Kushan, Middle Imperial Roman, Sassanids and Sudanese.

Don't forget Malcolm Barnfield - he has had a practice game at 1500 points. He was using Vikings, but lost to my army where all the points, apart from the commanders, came from the Cavalry allocation, or the allies who were also cavalry.

Looks like Bob has seen the light!

Not a Cataphract to be seen, two units had D3 and the rest D5. ;-)

Here is the annual reminder. If you need to book a room for this event - sooner the better.
Cowplain and Waterlooville are closest to the venue but the food is decidedly average at best. Havant is only 5 miles away and is a better curry venue. Portsmouth is quite convenient and has lots of options.

If I see any of you at Salute I'll happily mug you for the entry fee.

Andy and I have booked accomodation. Andy will be using his (now heavily modified) Late Imperial Roman field army, and I will be using Ostrogoths.
