Elephant and Commanders

Postby Bob Stradling » Sun Feb 02, 2020 10:24 pm

This situation came up today in a game.

A commander had joined an elephant. The elephant is shot at and the two fighting crew are killed. Leaving the mahoot.

When the elephant goes into combat does the commanders extra attacks still get counted. The mahoot has no attacks to add attacks to unless you are adding two to zero.

We played it that the commanders attacks did count even though there was no fighting crew left. I can see it happening again and wondered what the considered wisdom was.

Hi Bob - I would say that the commanders attacks are counted. Obviously they count as attacks by the crew and not by the elephant. Cheers W.

Wayne not even I would claim they were elephant attacks!

Interesting the fighting crew are superior fighters, but the mahoot is not, should the extra attacks be as superior rather than ordinary if the fighting crew are all dead. I think we rolled a d6 and I got lucky.

Yes, I would use the profile of applicable to the crew.

Commanders on Elephants, page 35, second para. For "normal crew" read "normal fighting crew" as the Commander can't be a mahout. So if the fighting crew have been killed, the Commander has too and so cannot add any dice.

Ok thanks for the clarification. In the example above the 'fighting crew' were killed by bow fire, and then the commander joined the elephant after that. So he can join, but no benefit from doing so.
